Nicholas Robbins Family

ELIZABETH (ROBBINS) DRESSER

ELIZABETH FRANCES (ROBBINS) DRESSER (Biographical notes from the family history records of James Bruckman) Re: The Nicholas Robbins Family, No. 7.96.3

Elizabeth Frances Robbins was the daughter of Jacob Robbins and the sister of Olive Augusta Robbins. She was born on 19 Oct 1830 in North Yarmouth, ME. She married James A. Dresser sometime after their intentions were filed in Cumberland County, ME on 13 Nov 1855.

By 1860 the family moved to Washington Island, WI, as did her sister Olive and her family. According to the 1860 US Census James Dresser was a farmer. Their son Frank was born on 10 Jan 1860, after which time no records of Elizabeth and James or their daughter Mary Jane have been found.  Their son Frank's obituary

indicated his parents died when he was quite young and he went to live with his uncle and aunt. The obituary made no mentions of Mary Jane Dresser.

Children of James A. and Elizabeth F. (Robbins) Dresser are:

i.  Mary Jane Dresser, b. about 1857, ME

ii.  Frank Eugene Dresser, b. 10 Jun 1860, Washington Island, WI, m. May Florence Doucet about 1883 in Appleton, WI, d. 22 Jul 1914 in Sturgeon Bay, WI

Frank Dresser followed in some of his Uncle William K. Dresser's footsteps, which may not be unusual since William acted as Frank's father. Frank was a Police Chief, City Marshall, Store Clerk and Farmer. He was one of the first rural mail carriers in Door County. It was in that employ that he contracted pneumonia and died at the age of 54 years.
