HENRY WILLIAM ROBBINS (A summary of data from the Robbins Family Register Report, compiled by Julie (Robbins) Dresser, Sycamore, Illinois, January, 2007 update) Re: The Nicholas Robbins Family, No. 7.163.2


Henry William Robbins, son of William and Mary (Briggs) Robbins, was born on 17 Jan 1855 in Livingston County, New York. He spent his formative years on the family farm near Moscow (now Leicester) in Livingston County and was enumerated there in the censuses of 1860, 1870 and 1880. Around 1879 Henry married Alice Murray, daughter of Alexander and Mary (Wyman) Murray, who was born in New York State on 10 Apr 1856.


Henry was a farmer in New York State and later in Minnesota, where he resettled with his family in 1896. The Robbins resided at Minden (1900 Census) and St. Cloud, Minnesota and at Buchanan, North Dakota (1910 Census) before settling in Minneapolis around 1919. In addition to farming, Henry worked in real estate for A. G. Whitney of St. Cloud and as an elevator operator for Massey Harris of Racine, Wisconsin. He was a member of North Star Masonic Lodge, St. Cloud.


Alice died at home in Minneapolis on 5 Apr 1924, age 67. According to her obituary, the cause of death was tuberculosis, from which she had suffered for a number of years. Henry died at St. Luke's Hospital in Racine, Wisconsin on 6 Jan 1931, age 75. He was buried with Alice, their daughters Mabel C. and Esther M. Robbins and his mother, Mary (Briggs) Robbins, in the family plot (No. 528) at the North Star Cemetery in St. Cloud.


The children of Henry and Alice (Murray) Robbins were:


 1. Mabel C. Robbins, born in June, 1881 in Genesee County, New York, who died unmarried at St. Cloud on 9 Nov 1909. Cause of death: Tuberculosis. According to her obituary, Mabel was educated at the Normal School in St. Cloud and worked for the Public Service Company prior to her final illness. Religion: Congregationalist.


 2. Blanch Robbins, born around 1883 in New York State, who died young at Moscow (now Leicester), New York on 5 May 1887.

 3. Leon Henry Robbins, born 8 Jan 1886 in Moscow (now Leicester), New York. In addition to New York, resided in Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Michigan. Married Alice Mabel Staples on 30 Oct 1912 at Mendota, Minnesota. Agriculture Agent for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad Company. Editor, Wisconsin Agriculturist. Religion: Presbyterian. Died on 11 Sep 1965, Whitewater, Wisconsin. Alice was born 27 Oct 1889 at Mendota, daughter of Charles and Margaret (Johnson) Staples. She was educated at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul. Religion: Presbyterian. Died on 31 Mar 1965, Whitewater, Wisconsin. Children: Wyman A. Robbins (1913- 1980); Douglas C. Robbins (1914-1989); Wayne A. Robbins (1916-1985); Elliot G. Robbins (1920-1974); and Alice L. Robbins (1922-1923).


 4. Lloyd Murray Robbins, born 8 Dec 1887 in Moscow (now Leicester), New York. In addition to New York, resided in Minnesota and California. Married Elizabeth ________ about 1913. Occupation: Teacher. Died at Altadena, California on 19 Apr 1971, age 83. Children: Lois Elizabeth Robbins (1915-1975) and Bruce J. Robbins.


 5. Esther M. Robbins, born 14 Apr 1890 in Moscow (now Leicester), New York. Removed to Minnesota at a young age and resided there and in North Dakota with her parents until her death at Buchanan, North Dakota on 1 May 1911. Cause of death: Tuberculosis. 


 6. Ruth Robbins, born in 1891 in Moscow (now Leicester), New York and died before June, 1900, place uncertain.


 7. Arlin McClain Robbins, born 3 May 1893 in Moscow (now Leicester), New York. Removed to Minnesota with family at a young age. Resided there until adulthood, then resettled in Seattle, Washington, where he was recorded in the 1930 Census. Later resided in Herlong, California and Reno, Nevada. Occupation: Laborer. Married (1) Anna ______, c. 1916 in Minnesota and (2) Alice _______. Died 2 Feb 1952 at Reno.
